[Upgraded] At last, a new year, a new start, M Powered!

It’s been a long time and now I finally have enough determination and time to upgrade the site. I named this version 2.5M, responsible for fixing all the major problems that may effect its functionality for major browsers beside Firefox. For this sake of stability, I decided to remove the ribbon on the top right corner that I have been testing for a while now and the Ajax editing comment thing. The ribbon is nice but has a fairly "complex" CSS code and Firefox seem to be the only one that can render it correctly so, it’s dropped. Same goes for Ajax editing comment, none other browsers could run it properly without breaking something so, it’s gone as well.
Here is the list of browsers that I tested, ordered from best to worst in term of rendering and performance:
-
Firefox 3 beta 2 [Render slightly more correct than Firefox 2]
-
Lolifox 0.3.6 (same as Firefox 2) [Benchmark]
-
Opera 9 [Poor Ajax support, slow, kinda dumb in handling CSS]
-
Internet Explorer 7 [Poor Ajax support, slow, can’t even handle basic CSS arguments, unbelievable]
-
Internet Explorer 6 [A complete trash]
Despite the list, this site should now able to display and function almost correctly in all other browsers. If you’re using Internet Explorer and have a low resolution screen like 800×600 for example, there is a good chance that the site will break and I can do nothing about it, just be on full screen on zoom out if necessary. This problem doesn’t happen with other browsers as far I know, in fact, due to code changed, I believe it can run quite well even on portable devices, not tested though.
On other note, while fixing the site, I decided to revision the overall interface and comment sections. The site looks more organized now with additional lining. Thumbnails are now used to display recent and random posts and this also makes it load slightly slower on the first run but after that, it’s fast again.
Comment section is a lot more compact and better looking now after a careful trimming and rearranging work. The cool "Laughing Man" icon is now used in place of the old gravatar blue icon. Your browser and operating system should now be detected and displayed under your comment by the comment section every time you submit a comment.
As you can see, there is a new logo now, featuring Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid 2 .I got a number of colors from her design as well, this explain why it’s 2.5M.
I cleaned up the overall code quite a bit as well so everything should load faster now but since I didn’t test everything, something might break, notice me if you see one.
All of this took me 3 days to fix, including new year eve/day, which I decided to spend at home for the first time in years with a pack of chip and tea. Let’s hope that I can be a more active poster with a lot of luck for this new year 2008.
Happy New Year!!!
